Macbeth's Netflix Queue

Dexter

Dexter is a T.V. series about a detective named Dexter. He is also a serial killer and hides his murders behind his authoritative control of investigations.Macbeth has recommended this movie because it reminds him of himself. Just like Dexter, Macbeth hides his murder of king Duncan by assisting the investigation.

The Adjustment Bureau
The Adjustment Bureau is a movie of predetermined fate. There is a man who falls in love with a woman but the people who control fate wont allow it. The movie brings up the idea if our fate is really predetermined or do we control our future. Macbeth loves this movie because of his huge belief in fate after his encounter with the three witches.
Stepford Wives
in the movie Stepford Wives there is a problem of women not completely submitting themselves to the men. This problem is fixed by the men controlling the women quite literally with computer chip implants. This is just like Macbeth's life because his wife was out of line so he took complete control over her.
The Deer Hunter
The Deer Hunter is a movie with Robert DeNiro that depicts a man with PTSD returning from the Vietnam war. It shows how his condition disrupts and causes problems with the entire neighborhood upon his return. Macbeth also had some PTSD from war which lead to him becoming much more easily unhinged.

  1. I thought your analyses were great! I thought your suggestion of Dexter drew a really accurate and unique parallel between the characters of Macbeth and Dexter. I also thought the suggestion of "The Adjustment Bureau" was spot on. About the suggestion for "Stepford Wives." Do you think Macbeth really controlled Lady Macbeth at the end? Or do you think it was her guilt controlling her? I feel like it was more her personal conflict and guilt that took her over and controlled her toward the end of the play.

  2. I agree with Ann that your analysis of Dexter was great, the fact they both help hide their guilt by being part of the investigation is very accurate. With "The Deer Hunter" do you think it was PTSD from the war that made Macbeth lose it? I think the stress from murdering Duncan was more similar to PTSD that causes both main character to go crazy. Also the comparison between causing havoc in his neighborhood and Macbeth upsetting all of Scotland is a good parallel.
